What makes Chiropractic different?

Traditional medicine focuses on germs and disease, with the standard treatment being the addition of chemicals in the form of medications into your system. These chemicals change the way your body works and causing side effects that can damage your body.

Chiropractic focuses on the care and integrity of your nervous system. Your brain, spinal cord and nerves control every aspect of your body. A misalignment can cause nerve tissues to stretch or become irritated, causing distortion of the signals between brain and body.

This misalignment is called a subluxation. Subluxations can simultaneously involve joints, nerves, muscles, soft tissue and degenerative changes. These areas that are stuck distort the communication between the body and brain, causing health problems. .

Who can benefit?

Entire Family Care

Family care can start at the very beginning. Newborns infants and children can all benefit. The birth process can put tremendous pressure on an infant's spine, causing the first subluxation. Symptoms that you can notice would be poor appetite, unable ot latch when breast feeding, unexplained crying or sleeplessness.

Pregnancy

Increasing weight and baby size puts more stress on the spine, causing changes in posture. These pressures affect joints in the spine which cause pain like sciatic nerve. Problems sleeping and nausea can also benefit from Chiropractic care.

Children

Young children have an amazing ability to adapt as they grow. Subluxations that are caused from play and those rough and tumble falls can cause problems later in adulthood if not addressed. Spinal subluxations hinder their immune systems. this allows them to catch every "bug" going around such as colds, sniffles or the flu. As children grow, hormonal changes and puberty cause a host of aches and pains. "Growing pains" are common, but not normal. A common symptom during adolescence, more common in girls, is an abnormal sideways curve of the spine called scoliosis. It may appear as a high shoulder or low hip, making clothes fit poorly. Chiropractic adjustmens help reduce subluxations and improve function on spinal structure. Muscles will strengthen and posture can improve. Remember that aches and pains at any age is a sign that something is not right.

Seniors

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease, causing changes on the surfaces of joints and the membranes that lubricate the joints. Common symptoms are morning stiffness, pain in joints, swelling or joint distortion. Chiropractic manipulates the joints, improving movement, reducing nerve irritation and swelling. Movement of a joint will reduce the chance of a joint becoming fused and totally immobile. A better working spine is the key to good health.

Other

Trauma either from sports or auto accidents need to be addressed sooner rather than later so that the healing process of the body can begin as quickly as possible. Stress is a form of trauma, physical and emotional. Adjustments of the spine will relax the muscles, affecting the stress.

Techniques

There are several different types of techniques that can be used to deliver the adjustment. Dr. Stephens will primarily use Diversified, but will and can use Thompson, SOT and Activator.

Acupuncture

Dr. Stephens is certified in Acupuncture. Acupuncture can also be performed different and can use needles or not. Acupuncture is a tool that compliments Chiropractic. After an adjustment, acupuncture can help reduce pain. It also works very well for migraines, headaches and anything else you can think of!
